"A body continues to stay in a state of rest or of uniform motion unless compelled by an external force to change its state" - Sir Issac Newton

Everyday lives of people are changed forever when an organization in the business of transporting people ends up displacing their customers at awkward, unknown and unfriendly surroundings; worse when done with utter disregard to their safety, time, feelings or right to be wherever they choose to. These are their true stories...

Last time I will ever fly Air India

Jan 08 '07

selphydeg's Full Review: Air India
I went to Germany with my boyfriend in mid December. He had a conference there and I decided to tag along in the last minute. We flew Air India because it was 100-200 dollars cheaper than Lufthansa and Northwest. I flew Eastern China Airline before and loved it, so I figure that maybe one of those more obscure airline is going to be just as good as any major airlines. It turned out to be a bad decision, the 100 dollars we saved in plan ticket was totally not worth it, considering the amount of headache it caused. Here is a list of all the things that were wrong with Air India. 1. All three pieces of our checked luggage were missing. Two pieces were delivered to us after we have been in Germany for 3 days. My boyfriend left his coat in the checked baggage since the coat was so big, as a result we had to buy him a coat in Germany. We came back to the state after a week and Air India told us that the last piece of luggage is going to be on a Lufthansa flight (that's only after we had to call them long distance) from Frankfurt to Detroit. We went to the airport to see if the luggage have arrived. The Lufthansa people were very helpful, but since the claim was filed in Germany with Air India, there weren't a whole lot they can do. They have the bookkeeping showing that our luggage was SUPPOSE to arrive in Detroit the day before, but the luggage was not loaded into the plane. The last piece of luggage is still missing after 3 weeks. We haven't received a single phone call from Air India. They are completely irresponsible. 2. When we arrived at Chicago airport, they told us that seats are going to be assigned at the gate. This was really strange. It turned out there was a glitch in their system, or at least that's what they told us and the last 20-30 passengers had to wait at the gate after all the other passengers got on the plane. My seat was 7 rows away from my boyfriend's. I did not look forward to sitting with a stranger on an eight hour flight packed completely full. We ended up exchange seats with another gentlemen who traveled alone. 3. The plane was old and filthy. There were grimes on windows and the tray tables. The bathroom was rather scary with urine on the toilet seats and dirty water left in the sink. 4. The cantaloup served for breakfast was rotten and everything else tasted crappy, but this one was minor considering practically all airlines have crappy food. The bottom line is you should seek other airlines to save yourself the headache, unless you are actually going to India and Air India is the only way to get you there.
